Monsignor O’Loughlin had a faithful four-legged companion, Nero, who was a familiar sight around the parish.
The two would often wander up to the parish school, and one student recalled being impressed that the priest always carried a bag to collect the “doggie poo” — ensuring no one stepped in any unwanted surprises!
Although his canine companion usually remained obediently at the presbytery during Mass, one parishioner remembers a memorable occasion when the dog wandered into the church and made its way right onto the altar during Mass.
